One of the wonderful things about living in Cambodia is being able to visit the ancient Angkorian temples. In addition, when you can show two years' worth of visas, you can apply for a Special Pass, and this means you can visit all of the temples under Angkor Enterprise for free.
On our YouTube channel, you can find a playlist dedicated to finding and exploring some of the more remote and less-visited temples.
If you're looking for information about the temples, there are two fantastic websites you can visit.
Beyond Angkor - this is a wiki database of pretty much every temple built by the Khmer empire. You will find sites categorised in many different ways, but the Cambodian Districts view showing Siem Reap province is particularly great. You will see a map showing every ancient site in Siem Reap and this gives you a sense of the staggering number of sites that are out there waiting to be explored.
Hello Angkor - this site provides information on temples by group or by province. There is also some really nice narrative content where the author details temple-related trips, for example taking the East Royal Road from Angkor to Preah Khan of Kampong Svay.
If you are interested in Khmer statuary and relics, you should follow Andy Brouwer on Facebook. He is a wealth of knowledge and regularly posts about Khmer antiquities, culture and history.
You can take a boat trip on the Tonle Sap departing from Chong Kneas, the part of the lake closest to Siem Reap town. These boats have been regulated and now operate on a fixed price schedule. See more on the Angkor Enterprise website.
